Moving is an arduous task. 47% of those who have relocated recently report experiencing increased levels of stress and anxiety throughout the experience. If you’re going to be moving soon, planning ahead will reduce stress greatly.

The first thing you should do is devise a checklist. From transferring utilities to hiring a pet or babysitter, the tasks will begin to stack up if not organized properly. A checklist helps put tasks in order so you can take care of the most important and challenging things first. It’s recommended to reach out to the moving company you plan on utilizing to check if they have a moving timeline guide to view.

The next step is to put together a home inventory sheet. Go room by room and make a detailed list of all your belongings. Any unwanted items should be thrown away, or better yet donated. The fewer items you need to pack, the less you have to unpack at the new location. Keep track of anything that requires special care, such as glass items.

One more tip is to consume any perishable food items. This mitigates waste while also reduces what you bring with you. Empty the kitchen cabinets and defrost the freezer if necessary, since these time-consuming tasks should be done as soon as possible.
